Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program

Help PPBEP staff lead families on a hands-on adventure through our local seagrass beds! Critter Catcher volunteers assist with program set-up, seining, critter identification, participant engagement, and general program support. Volunteers should be comfortable getting in the water and interacting with participants of all ages and backgrounds. Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years or older Volunteers must have completed a Critter Catcher Training prior to signing up for a Seagrass Sleuths shift.

The goal of Seagrass Sleuths is to immerse families in local seagrass habitats through hands-on exploration and discovery. By experiencing these ecosystems firsthand, youth and adults alike build connections with the natural world and the diverse wildlife that call our estuaries home, inspiring curiosity, appreciation, and environmental stewardship.

Please bring water, snacks, towel, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.), and wear clothes and closed-toed footwear that can get wet (e.g., swimsuit, rashguard/sun shirt, wet suit booties or other water shoes).

Please let us know at least 48 hours before your shift if you need to cancel so that we can ensure we have coverage for events. We understand emergencies happen, if you need to cancel less than 48 hours please email us asap to let us know you won't be able to join. Thank you!
